Roofing Cost Calculator

Estimate roof installation, replacement, or repair costs using preliminary U.S. national price benchmarks.

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Select new installation, roof replacement, or roof repair.
  2. For installation or replacement, choose a roofing material and enter roof area or dimensions.
  3. Choose a waste allowance. Add decking repair only if needed and not already included in your contractor's quote.
  4. Compare the low, typical, and high estimates as planning ranges—not as a quote.

How This Calculator Works

For installation and replacement, the calculator multiplies the entered or estimated roof area by a published preliminary U.S. national installed-cost range for the selected material. The selected waste allowance increases the area used in that calculation. If optional decking is selected during replacement, a separate provisional decking allowance is added for the entered decking area. Repair estimates instead use a task-based published cost range and the selected scope multiplier; the emergency option adds a provisional surcharge.

Typical* is calculated as (Low + High) ÷ 2. It is a mathematical midpoint of the range used by this calculator—not an independently measured national average, median, or prediction of what a contractor will charge.

Assumptions and Limitations

  • Prices are preliminary U.S. national planning benchmarks, not ZIP-code-specific prices, a live quote feed, or a guarantee of current contractor pricing. No ZIP-code adjustment is performed.
  • These ranges come from published cost-guide benchmarks, not a complete census of U.S. roofing contracts. The plugin does not calculate a statistically observed average for each material.
  • Price scope differs by material and source. An “installed” range may include different work items. Confirm whether tear-off, disposal, underlayment, flashing, permits, and decking are included before comparing it with a contractor quote.
  • Replacement uses the selected material's installed benchmark as a preliminary replacement estimate. Tear-off or disposal is not added separately, to reduce the risk of double-counting when the source range already includes those items.
  • The waste allowance is applied to the whole area-based estimate as a simplifying assumption. It may overstate costs when a published installed rate already accounts for typical waste, or when labor is not charged on waste-adjusted area.
  • The optional decking allowance is provisional and only applies to the entered decking area. Actual damage and repair costs can differ substantially.
  • Repair ranges depend on the described task and scope multiplier. The multiplier is a simplified planning assumption, not a contractor-validated pricing formula. Emergency surcharge is also provisional.
  • Solar shingles may require electrical equipment, inverter, storage, roof integration, and other system costs that this simplified roof-area estimate may not capture.
  • Actual costs vary with roof geometry, pitch, access, location, contractor, code requirements, project size, and concealed damage. Obtain multiple itemized local quotes before making a purchase decision.
